IUBAT is the oldest non-government university in Bangladesh and the only one offering full undergraduate programs in Agriculture, Nursing, and Aviation Operations Management. A focused guide.

International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) was established in 1991, making it the oldest non-government university in Bangladesh. It was founded by Professor Dr. M. Alimullah Miyan, and it stands apart from most private universities in one obvious way: the programs on offer.

Most private universities cluster around the same four or five subjects. IUBAT runs programs that are genuinely unusual in the private sector — undergraduate Agriculture, BSc Nursing, and Aviation Operations Management.

Distinctive Programs

  • BS in Agriculture: A four-year program with field-based practicals. Few private universities in Bangladesh offer this at undergraduate level; most agricultural education sits with BAU and the public agricultural cluster.
  • BSc in Nursing: Recognised by the Bangladesh Nursing & Midwifery Council. Particularly relevant for students aiming at overseas nursing pathways (UK NMC, Australia AHPRA, Canadian provincial bodies).
  • Aviation Operations Management: A management program oriented toward airline and airport operations careers.
  • Tourism and Hospitality Management: Linked into the hospitality industry through structured internships.

More Conventional Programs

  • Civil Engineering: Older program with strong consulting placement.
  • CSE and EEE: Mid-size engineering departments.
  • Pharmacy: Five-year B.Pharm.
  • BBA, Economics, English: Standard offerings.

Campus

The campus is in Uttara, Sector 10. It is a compact urban campus — purpose-built but vertical rather than sprawling. For students living in Uttara, Tongi, or near the airport, the commute is short. For students living south of Tejgaon, daily travel can become a real factor.

Admission Test

  • Multiple intakes per year.
  • Written or in-house test depending on program; Nursing and Agriculture have specific subject requirements.
  • Interview for Aviation Operations Management and BSc Nursing applicants.

Eligibility

  • Agriculture: HSC Science with Biology, combined GPA 6.50.
  • Nursing: HSC Science with Biology, combined GPA 6.50, English minimum B.
  • Engineering: HSC Science with Math, combined GPA 7.00.
  • Business / Tourism / Aviation Mgmt: Any HSC background, combined GPA 6.00.

Cost

  • Agriculture: 5,00,000 – 6,50,000 BDT.
  • Nursing: 5,50,000 – 7,00,000 BDT.
  • Civil / CSE / EEE: 6,50,000 – 8,00,000 BDT.
  • Pharmacy (5 years): 9,00,000 – 11,00,000 BDT.
  • Aviation Operations Management: 5,50,000 – 7,00,000 BDT.
  • BBA / Tourism: 4,50,000 – 6,00,000 BDT.

Scholarships

  • IUBAT operates a long-running scholarship policy with up to 100% merit waivers.
  • Need-based aid through the IUBAT Trust for students from rural areas.
  • Sibling concession.
  • Special pathway for orphan students and verified Freedom Fighter dependants.

When IUBAT Fits

If you want one of the niche programs — Agriculture, Nursing, Aviation Mgmt — IUBAT is the most established private option in Bangladesh. For conventional CSE or BBA there are larger and better-funded universities. But for the niche tracks, especially Nursing as a route to overseas registration, IUBAT remains the most established choice in the private sector.
