EWU's purpose-built Aftabnagar campus, its long-running B.Pharm program, and a Business school with surprisingly strong industry placement — a guide to admission and real costs in 2026.

East West University (EWU) was founded in 1996, in the second wave of private universities established under the Private University Act. After years of operating from rented spaces in Mohakhali, EWU moved to its permanent purpose-built campus at Aftabnagar in 2013 — a major shift that reset its student experience.

This guide covers what an applicant in 2026 actually needs to know: programs that stand out, admission test format, real fees, and aid.

The Aftabnagar Campus

EWU's twelve-storey block at Aftabnagar sits in a quieter east-Dhaka neighbourhood. For students who commute from Demra, Rampura, or Banasree, it is a far easier daily journey than Bashundhara. The campus has dedicated labs for Pharmacy, EEE, and CSE, a central library spread across two floors, and a small auditorium used for departmental seminars.

Enrolment is mid-sized — large enough to support active student clubs (drama, robotics, business club) but small enough that faculty know most students personally by the second year.

The Departments That Define EWU

  • Pharmacy: Five-year B.Pharm professional program. EWU was among the first private universities to invest in a full pharmaceutical sciences department, and the program enjoys strong placement into Square, Renata, and Beximco.
  • Economics: Quantitative-leaning curriculum. Several graduates have moved on to PhD programs in North America.
  • Business Administration: Tied closely to the Center for Research and Training (CRT) at EWU; strong corporate placements through structured internships.
  • CSE and EEE: Mid-size engineering departments with active programming culture; a few CSE faculty members maintain open-source research output.

Admission Test

EWU runs three intakes a year (Spring, Summer, Fall). The written test is mostly MCQ:
  • English — reading, sentence completion, grammar.
  • Mathematics — algebra, geometry, basic calculus for science applicants.
  • General intelligence — short pattern and reasoning questions.
No interview for most undergraduate programs; Pharmacy and Architecture applicants may face a short academic interview.

Eligibility

Combined SSC + HSC GPA of 7.00 for Arts and Business, 7.50 for Pharmacy and Engineering. HSC English minimum B is required across the board.

Four-Year Cost

  • BBA: 7,00,000 – 9,00,000 BDT total.
  • CSE / EEE: 9,00,000 – 11,00,000 BDT.
  • Economics: 7,00,000 – 8,50,000 BDT.
  • B.Pharm (5 years): 11,00,000 – 13,00,000 BDT.
These sit clearly below NSU and BRAC for comparable programs.

Scholarships

  • Up to 100% tuition waiver for SGPA above 3.90, on a semester-by-semester basis.
  • Admission-time waivers for HSC Golden A+ holders.
  • The Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin Endowment provides need-based aid to a small number of students annually.
  • Sibling discount of 10% for two enrolled siblings.

Practical Considerations

EWU's location is excellent for east-Dhaka residents but adds a real commute for students from Mirpur, Uttara, or Mohammadpur. There is no on-campus dormitory, so out-of-Dhaka students typically rent in Rampura or Banasree. Factor housing into your budget before committing.
