Bangladesh University of Business and Technology runs a UGC-accredited, BACS-approved program at one of the lowest tuition points in the private sector. Here's the honest picture.

Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) was founded in 2003 by the Bangladesh Foundation for Advancement of Education and Research (BFAER), a non-profit charitable trust. It does not have the marketing budget of NSU or BRAC, and you will not see its name in glossy magazine ads. What it does have is one of the most affordable private degree options in greater Dhaka.

The campus is in Rupnagar, Mirpur — a residential neighbourhood that is genuinely accessible by public transport from most parts of north and west Dhaka. For students living in Mirpur, Pallabi, Kalyanpur, or Mohammadpur, BUBT removes the commuting burden that comes with Bashundhara or Aftabnagar.

What BUBT Offers

BUBT is not trying to compete on engineering scale or research output. It offers a focused set of programs:
  • BBA, Accounting, Finance, Management: Core of the university.
  • CSE: Standard ACM-aligned curriculum.
  • EEE, Textile Engineering: Mid-size programs.
  • English: Communicative English focus.
  • Economics: Smaller but functional program.

Accreditation

BUBT is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, and its business school holds Bangladesh Accreditation Council of Bangladesh (BACB) recognition. This matters for postgraduate admissions abroad and for sitting BCS-related exams.

Admission Test

  • Three intakes a year.
  • In-house written test: English, Math, and a subject-specific section.
  • Direct admission paths for HSC Golden A+ holders.
  • Test can be waived for applicants with very strong SSC and HSC results who apply early.

Eligibility

Combined SSC + HSC GPA of 6.50 for Business, 7.00 for CSE and EEE. The threshold is lower than at top-tier private universities, which broadens access.

Cost — The Headline Number

  • BBA: 4,50,000 – 6,00,000 BDT total — among the cheapest BBAs in the private sector.
  • CSE: 5,50,000 – 7,00,000 BDT.
  • EEE / Textile: 5,50,000 – 7,50,000 BDT.
  • English / Economics: 4,00,000 – 5,50,000 BDT.
For a working-class family, the difference between a 5 lakh and a 13 lakh degree changes whether higher education is possible at all. BUBT exists to be that lower price point.

Scholarships

  • Up to 100% waiver based on semester CGPA.
  • First-semester scholarships for HSC Golden A+ holders.
  • Tuition concession for siblings.
  • Free Friday-batch classes for some BBA streams targeting working students.

Honest Limitations

BUBT does not have a sprawling campus, internal coffee shops, or large sports facilities. Many faculty members are part-time or visiting. Corporate placement is mostly through students' own networking — there is no structured career office of the kind NSU runs. Students who go in expecting equivalent facilities to NSU or BRAC will be disappointed. Students who go in for the degree, the proximity to Mirpur, and the affordability are usually satisfied with the trade.
