AIUB runs one of the largest engineering operations in private Bangladesh. Here's what its scale buys you, how the admission process works, and how it compares on cost.
American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) was founded in 1994 and now operates from a large purpose-built campus at Kuratoli (Kuril). It is one of the highest-enrolment private universities in the country, and that scale shapes nearly everything about the student experience.
Where universities like IUB or ULAB run intimate departments with small cohorts, AIUB runs at the opposite end of the curve: large lecture halls, dozens of parallel CSE and BBA sections, and a programming culture sustained by sheer student volume.
What Scale Buys You
- Hundreds of section choices per semester: Easier to build a workable timetable around part-time work or family obligations.
- An active competitive programming community: AIUB's ICPC team has a long history; the campus runs internal contests weekly during the active semester.
- Industry visibility: Local IT firms recruit heavily from AIUB, partly because it produces the largest volume of CSE and EEE graduates each year.
What Scale Costs You
- Less individual faculty attention than at BRAC or IUB.
- The campus can feel impersonal in your first semester.
- Course-section quality varies — strong faculty have waiting lists; some sections end up with newer instructors.
Strongest Programs
- Faculty of Engineering (CSE, EEE, COE): The flagship faculty. CSE is the most subscribed program at AIUB.
- Faculty of Business Administration: Large MBA pipeline; strong corporate placement.
- Architecture (5 years): Smaller but well-regarded program.
- Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences: Includes English, Anthropology, and Media — smaller departments compared to engineering.
Admission Test Format
AIUB uses an in-house multiple-choice test, offered three times a year:- English (vocabulary, grammar, reading).
- Mathematics (algebra and pre-calculus for most programs).
- Subject-specific section for engineering and architecture applicants.
Eligibility
Combined SSC + HSC GPA of 7.00 for Arts and Business, 8.00 for Engineering, with subject-specific minimums in Math and Physics for engineering applicants.Tuition Cost
